In Abrahamic faiths, a major event in a boy’s life is his circumcision. It is a religious requirement for male Muslims and also part of the Jewish tradition. In Islam, girls don the veil (Hijab) in public when they reach puberty. Islam is the second largest universal religion with followers in all parts of the world. The Muslims believe in the Biblical prophets Adam, Noah, Abraham, Ishmail, Isaac and Moses.
Dr. Mohammed, a local cardiologist with Cardiologists of Clark and Champaign Counties, was born in India and is a founding member of the Global Education and Peace Network. He enjoys sharing information about his culture, and has presented previously at the Global Education Speaker Series on topics of “World Refugees,” “Intercultural Communication,” “The Hajj,” “The Arabian Nights” and “Urdu.” He has served on medical missions to assist persons in other countries in disaster areas and refugee camps.
"The Global Education and Peace Network began after September 11, 2001 when the City of Springfield led Study Circles to encourage dialogue about the tragedy. One Study Circle began the Global Education Speaker Series and Calendar, now in its 10th year, to raise awareness of global and local ethnic cultures to build bridges of intercultural understanding.
