“Since our students come from schools throughout a three county area,” said Dayton Regional STEM School Principal Brian Boyd, “having a couple of days before the school year begins is a great opportunity for students to start making new friends. It also gives students an idea of the type of projects they will experience as a Dayton Regional STEM School student.”
The 2010‐11 school year begins for the Dayton Regional STEM School on Monday, August 23.
Located in Beavercreek, the Dayton Regional STEM School is one of 10 public STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) schools being created across Ohio, offering students a relevant, real world educational experience which will prepare them for college and opportunities in the work world – in essence, a springboard for developing and maintaining the Dayton region’s talent base. The School opened inAugust 2009 with its first class of 9th grade students from across Clark, Greene and Montgomery counties. The Dayton Regional STEM School currently serves 8th, 9th and 10th grade students, with annual expansions planned through 2012, when it ultimately serves grades 6‐12. Tenth‐grade students from the Dayton Regional STEM School get a closer look at a human brain while visiting the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University. The experience took place during the School’s summer orientation program on August 11.
August 12, 2010 – Beavercreek, Ohio – Students from the Dayton Regional STEM School recently spent two days getting a taste of “what the upcoming school year will be like.” The first day took place on‐site at the Dayton Regional STEM School where students met their teachers, advisors and fellow students; received their school schedules; completed a hands‐on optics activity with laser beams conducted by employees from Mound Laser & Photonics, Inc.; and participated in one of two design challenges. For the second day, students were on‐site at Wright State University’s campus traversing the Low Ropes course and Geocaching. The School’s 10th grade students were able to see human body organs up‐close while visiting the Boonshoft School of Medicine. About 155 of the School’s students attended the summer orientation on August 10‐11.
