Fairborn Senior Center Hosts Marathon Pasta Dinner

Fairborn, Ohio – If there is anything a runner needs before a race it’s carbohydrates, and on Friday, September 17 from 6 - 9 p.m., the night before the USAF 14th Annual Marathon, that is exactly what the Fairborn Senior Center is serving. The center, as part of its effort to highlight the USAF Marathon running through downtown Fairborn, will host its second Pasta Dinner for runners and their families. The menu includes spaghetti with marinara sauce, meatballs, sausage, baked ziti with meat sauce, along with salad, rolls, and desserts.

Attendance to the Fairborn Pasta Dinner is expected to be good, as the pasta dinner sponsored by the USAF Marathon has already sold out. The cost for the ‘all-you-can-eat buffet’ dinner is as follows: ages 14 and up, $15; seniors over 55, $10; ages 7 - 13, $7; and ages 6 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased at the center in advance or the evening of the dinner. Fairborn Senior Center Director Ellen Slone-Farthing stated that the funds raised would support various programs and services at the center.

“The funds can assist with the cost for our fitness and exercise program which is our most popular program,” stated Farthing. “It will also help with arts and crafts, our Healing Hearts support group and other services. We also coordinate a monthly education awareness program around a topic that affects seniors.

The Fairborn Senior Citizen Center, located at 325 N. Third Street, is continually finding ways to involve their seniors in community activities.

“This is our second year to partner with the City of Fairborn, the Downtown Fairborn Betterment Association and the Mile Ten Committee for the marathon party. We like the excitement that goes on in the community with this race, and it provides us with another way in which we can open up to the community,” Farthing commented.
