Last night, Tallahassee City Commissioners voted unanimously to extend employee benefits to all domestic partners, not just married couples. Why did they do that, especially when the city is under tremendous financial pressure? We have underpaid police officers, and many city positions have been cut out entirely. But now they have agreed to pay benefits to a new group of people – people who aren’t married but are living together.

A bunch of young people came over yesterday to eat us out of house and home. Suddenly a call came in that someone needed help, the all-hands-on-deck kind of help.
Many students are required to do community service. One student told me she didn’t like that idea. “They just do it to get it on their record,” she said.
